As a freshman, started and won three games of the teams five win season. Athletic career began at Bowie State in 1973. Athletic achievements and recognitions include, Baltimore Sun's All Star Team Selection, Quarterback Honorable Mention 1975 and 1976, First Bowie State Quarterback to Pass for over 700 yards and rush for over 300 years in a single season – 1975, First Bowie State Quarterback to lead team to a nine win and one loss season, Passed for over 300 yards, 26 Completions vs Towson – 1976, Record - Longest Pass and Run from scrimmage 86 Yard Touchdown - Mitchell to McCollough vs Hampton. Passing Record Stood for over 20 Years. 12 Wins and 3 Losses as the Starting Quarterback; Highest Winning Percentage of a Bowie State Quarterback in First 12 Starts, Led Team to the Most Points Scored in a Single Season - 358 Points, Averaged 35.8 Points Per Game, Jet Magazine's Independent Black College Champions 1975, and Ranked 4th Nationally among All HBCUs -1975.
Ricardo's professional career has included positions as: Deputy Program Manager - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract, Program Manager - Black Lung Manual Claims Payment Operations for EDS, City Manager for Glenarden Maryland City Government, Director of Human Resources for J&T NASA Contract, and Vice President of Administration for Jackson and Tull Engineers.
Community Service and Organizations includes President of the Willow Grove Civic Association - Prince George's Maryland, President of the Glenarden Boys and Girls Club, President of the Glenarden Youth Track Booster's Club, Charter Member of the Mid-Atlantic BSU Alumni Chapter, Lifetime Member of the Bowie State University National Alumni Association, Committee Chairman of the National Alumni Association BSU Sports Hall of Fame Committee and Member of the Stuart's Crossing Home Owner's Association (HOA).
Ricardo is married to Bonita D.S. Mitchell and the proud father of three adult children: Julius A. Valentine, Jock R. Mitchell and Jade Renee Mitchell, Daughter-In-Laws: Amanda Valentine and Leticia Moore Mitchell. Grandchildren: Lanaya Valentine, Tavio Valentine, and Mila Mitchell.
